About the Dynavector 20X2A-L
The 20X2A is one of Dynavector’s more accessible moving coil cartridges, with a solid aluminium alloy body, hard aluminium cantilever and Micro-Ridge stylus tip. Its magnetic circuit shares the same base structure as Dynavector’s XX family and the Te Kaitora Rua, brought down to a genuinely accessible price rather than built to a different standard. The 20X2A-L is the low output version, built for a dedicated MC phono stage or step-up transformer, using the same PCOCC coil wire found in Dynavector’s higher-end models. Special Annealing Magnetic Circuit
The magnetic circuit at the core of any MC cartridge uses pure iron for its stable magnetic properties, but the process of shaping and machining that iron distorts its crystal structure at an atomic level, reducing magnetic permeability. Dynavector’s Special Annealing process – refining the temperature, environment, duration and heating/cooling rates used to heat-treat each part – restores that distorted structure, for an expansive, resonant sound without the loss of resolution a generic annealing process would leave behind.
Neodymium magnet with Softened Magnetism
A powerful neodymium magnet gives the 20X2A its output, with Dynavector’s patented Softened Magnetism technology reducing the distortion and harsh, edgy sound that rare-earth magnets can otherwise introduce – for a clear separation of sound without sacrificing drive.
Hard aluminium pipe cantilever with Micro-Ridge stylus
A hollow, hard aluminium pipe cantilever keeps the moving mass of the vibration system low, for a wide bandwidth and clear high-frequency reproduction. The Micro-Ridge stylus tip that rides on the end of it has a minute 2-micron radius of curvature where it actually contacts the groove, with a band-like shape chosen for its resistance to abrasion and consistent performance over a long stylus life.
Low output, for the true MC character
The 20X2A-L drops output to 0.3mV, using the same PCOCC coil wire as Dynavector’s higher-end models, and a recommended load impedance of 30Ω or more makes it compatible with most head amplifiers and MC step-up transformers.
