At its core, the Hegel H390 is a powerful integrated amplifier offering 250 watts per channel output into a typical 8 Ω load and with the ability to scale its output to cope with more challenging loads. Why would you need so much power? Most owners will never push the limits of the H390’s output, but having that power in reserve provides incredible dynamic range and a vanishingly low noise floor at typical listening levels.
The H390 is much more than just an amplifier though. It includes a versatile mix of analogue and digital inputs, including a high quality built-in DAC and music streamer. The Hegel H390 is a complete product. You can connect virtually anything you like.

At the heart of the H390 is Hegel’s patented SoundEngine 2 amplifier section. SoundEngine 2 works rather like a noise cancelling headphone. A computer samples what comes into the amplifier and compares it to what comes out. The computer subtracts the difference (distortion) and then adds it into the music but in inverted phase. The result is that SoundEngine 2 cancels out almost all errors made by the amplifier, without any time delay. You are left with the most musical and natural sound you ever have experienced.
If not using a turntable, you are probably using digital connections. Hegel designs both the analogue and digital sections from the ground up and entirely in-house. The digital section in the Hegel H390 is unique in that, regardless of the signal type or input, the music signal remains unchanged and untampered with. Hegel calls it a “bit perfect” DAC. It is digital audio in its purest form. Hegel even designs digital clocks that will follow the sample rate of the music and “down-clock” when receiving a low-resolution file. This results in a far more natural and “analogue” sound as well as an unbelievable soundstage and realism.
The H390 has Apple Airplay, Spotify Connect and DLNA/UPnP streaming, and is also certified Roon Ready. It supports pretty much every audio format, including native DSD and MQA.
Flexible and adaptable
Any of the Hegel H390’s inputs can be configured for volume bypass, making it easy to integrate into a home theatre system or connect an external streamer like the Bluesound Node. Almost whatever you want, you can do it with the H390.
