About the Bluesound Pulse Flex
The Pulse Flex is Bluesound’s compact wireless streaming speaker – a single-box system built to bring proper multi-room sound to a kitchen, bedroom or office without the complexity of separates. It streams over Wi-Fi through Bluesound’s BluOS platform, plays via Bluetooth when that’s simpler, and can be paired with a second Pulse Flex for genuine stereo separation, or added as a surround pair to a Bluesound soundbar.
Custom-tuned drivers, DSP-controlled amplification
Inside is a two-way driver array – a 21mm tweeter and a 102mm woofer – each driven by its own dedicated amplifier channel, for a combined 50W of power. Bluesound’s Smart DSP amplification tailors the crossover and equalisation specifically to these drivers’ own characteristics, rather than applying a generic EQ curve, aiming for a balanced, room-filling sound from a genuinely compact enclosure.
The BluOS platform
Every Pulse Flex runs Bluesound’s BluOS operating system, on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor. The BluOS Controller app covers more than 20 streaming services and internet radio stations, plays high-resolution files up to 24-bit/192kHz (with DSD256 support), and can pull music from a network share over SMB or read album art directly. AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready are all built in, alongside aptX HD Bluetooth 5.3 for when a direct wireless connection is simpler than the network.
One speaker, or a whole-home system
A single Pulse Flex works as a standalone speaker anywhere in the house; two can be paired together for genuine left/right stereo separation, and BluOS lets any Bluesound speaker be grouped with any other for synchronised multi-room playback, whether that’s a Pulse Flex in the kitchen and a soundbar in the living room. For home theatre use, a pair can also be added to a Bluesound soundbar as wireless surround channels. A wireless connection to the PULSE SUB+ subwoofer is supported too, for anyone wanting to add low-frequency extension.
Connections and control
USB-C accepts input from a computer, and a USB-A port reads external storage directly (FAT32/NTFS formatted) for local playback without a network at all. A combined 3.5mm input handles either an analogue or optical digital source. Ethernet is available alongside dual-band Wi-Fi for the most reliable connection. Control is via the BluOS Controller app, the three physical preset buttons on top, or Amazon Alexa voice control.
