About the D’Von Aurora SQ-40
The SQ-40 sits at the top of the Aurora range, and the step up from the SQ-30 isn’t just a case of a bigger box. It moves to the same 26mm tweeter used on the SQ-20, and pairs it with two 6″ woofers in a 2.5-way arrangement — one handling bass and midrange, the other filtered to bass only, the same principle as the SQ-30 but with larger drivers doing the work. The result is a rated sensitivity of 90dB, the highest in the range, and an in-room frequency response reaching down to 35Hz.
That higher sensitivity is worth pausing on: at 90dB, the SQ-40 needs less raw power to reach a given volume than the smaller Aurora models, which is why D’Von Audio’s recommended amplifier range starts as low as 20W. But the nominal impedance dips to 3.0Ω minimum — a more demanding load than the SQ-30’s 3.7Ω — so what actually matters for amp matching is current delivery into a low impedance, not just watts on a spec sheet. Worth talking through with a customer rather than just quoting the wattage range.
Cabinet and build
At 1,074mm tall and 24kg per speaker, this is the largest cabinet in the Aurora range by a clear margin — noticeably bigger than the SQ-30 in every dimension. It’s built the same way as the rest of the range: 18mm cabinet walls, a 30mm front baffle, internal bracing and D’Von Audio’s damping system, all in Hidrófugo MDF. Given the sheer cabinet volume involved, that bracing is doing more work here than anywhere else in the range to keep resonance under control. Like the SQ-30, it stands on floor spikes via an M8 insert rather than a stand.
Every Aurora speaker uses premium SB Acoustics drivers, with high-quality Jantzen Audio components in the crossover for clarity, balance, and musical accuracy that hold up as you push the volume.
Finish
D’Von Audio speakers are finished in premium Italian paint, and the SQ-40 is available in a choice of ten finishes: Black, White, Birch Black, Birch White, Walnut Black, Walnut White, Suit Blue, Charcoal Grey, Burgundy, and Dark Forest Green. Please note that the Walnut finish is a Birch cabinet with a walnut stain, not solid walnut or walnut veneer.
As the largest model in the range, the SQ-40 is made to order, with a 2–3 week lead time.
Features
- 2.5-way design, dual 6″ woofers — the largest driver configuration in the Aurora range, for deep, effortless bass in large rooms
- 26mm soft-dome tweeter — the same tweeter used on the SQ-20, tuned to hand over cleanly at 2,100Hz
- 90dB sensitivity — the most efficient speaker in the range, though its 3.0Ω minimum impedance calls for an amplifier with good current delivery
- High-density Hidrófugo MDF cabinet — moisture-resistant grade, with internal bracing and advanced damping to handle the largest cabinet volume in the range
- 18mm cabinet walls, 30mm front baffle — substantial construction throughout
- M8 spike inserts — floorstanding fit, not stand-mounted
- SB Acoustics drivers with Jantzen Audio crossover components — premium components chosen for clarity, balance and musical accuracy
- Ten Italian-paint finishes — from classic Black and White through to Suit Blue and Dark Forest Green
- Grilles and port plugs included — flexibility to fine-tune bass response and aesthetics to suit the room
Frequently Asked Questions
Both are 2.5-way floorstanders with the same building principle, but the SQ-40 uses larger drivers throughout — a 26mm tweeter (versus 19mm) and two 6″ woofers (versus two 5″). It’s the largest, most efficient speaker in the range, built for the biggest rooms.
The price is per pair, supplied with grilles, port plugs, and spike feet.
D’Von Audio recommend 20–200W into the SQ-40’s 4Ω load (3.0Ω minimum). The low minimum impedance means current delivery matters more than raw wattage — get in touch and we can help match it properly to your amp.
D’Von uses a Birch cabinet with a walnut-toned stain, not solid walnut or walnut veneer.
The SQ-40 is made to order due to its size, with a 2–3 week lead time.
The Aurora SQ-40 comes with a 5-year warranty.
