About the Matrix Audio TT-1
The TT-1 is Matrix Audio’s mid-range digital audio transport, sharing the same M Series streaming platform as other Matrix Audio streamers, but without a built-in DAC. It suits anyone stepping up from a basic streamer, or wanting a dedicated transport to sit ahead of a DAC they already own, without the cost of the flagship NT-1.
Clocking and connectivity
Timing comes from two dedicated femtosecond clocks, one for the 44.1kHz family and one for 48kHz, with FPGA-based control handling frequency switching automatically and each clock running from its own low-noise linear regulator.
Digital outputs cover coaxial, optical, USB, AES/EBU and IIS-LVDS, connecting to almost any DAC or digital amplifier, and feeding an active speaker with a digital input directly brings up a digital volume control, so there’s no need for a separate controller. The USB DAC output is tuned specifically for the job, with transmission impedance calibrated to minimise loss at the physical layer.
Networking is wired Gigabit Ethernet as standard, with dual-band Wi-Fi built in for anyone who can’t run a cable, though a wired connection remains the more reliable option for high-resolution streaming.
Storage and everyday use
An NVMe SSD bay gives the TT-1 its own local library, shared over the network via SMB or as a NAS for other streamers in the house. Two USB 3.0 ports support ripping CDs automatically from an external drive, plus one-touch copying between USB storage devices, without needing a computer.
The TT-1 can also mount NAS drives directly. Playback wakes it automatically, and a trigger connection can bring a downstream DAC or amplifier on with it.
Power and build
The TT-1 ships with a wide-range switching power supply, backed by multiple low-noise LDO regulators feeding each circuit independently. For anyone wanting to take it further, a DC input lets an external linear power supply be added later. When one’s connected, the TT-1 automatically switches over to it and disconnects the internal AC supply, keeping only the ground connection.
