Amphion Krypton 3X Floorstanding Speakers

Krypton 3X (styled Krypton3X) is the latest iteration of Amphion’s flagship loudspeaker project. 25 years in the making, Krypton 3X is a true reference design. This highly innovative and unique three way loudspeaker allows you to enjoy full range, realistic orchestral performances without owning a concert hall.

5th generation waveguide

In common with all Amphion loudspeakers, Krypton 3X features Amphion’s signature waveguide. The waveguide offers three distinct advantages over conventional baffle-mounted tweeters.

First, it acts as an acoustic amplifier, increasing the tweeter’s efficiency. This allows Amphion to cross over at a lower frequency — where the ear is less sensitive to the transition between drivers — for a smoother, more natural sound.

Second, it places the acoustic centre of the tweeter in the same vertical plane as the 8″ mid/bass driver, ensuring perfect time alignment and phase coherence.

Third, the waveguide improves dispersion. Treble, which is normally highly directional, spreads over a wider arc, keeping the tonal balance consistent even off-axis. This creates a wider sweet spot and ensures reflected sound maintains the same tonal mix as the direct sound, enhancing spaciousness and realism.

Mighty midrange

The combined cone area of tweeter and two 8” midrange units is 950 cm² – up to seven times more than in competing products. When needed, substantial amounts of air can be moved with ease, while preserving the subtle nuances.

Cardioid design

Krypton 3X’s two 8” midwoofers are isolated from the rest of the cabinet in perforated, cardioid chambers. This creates a cardioid (heart shaped) dispersion pattern, which radically reduces midrange reflections and ensures the highest level of performance, even in less than optimal listening environments.

The highly innovative cardioid midrange minimizes unwanted reflections from both side and back walls (up to 20 dB), and allows Krypton 3X’s to perform exceptionally well even in small rooms or close to large windows.

Hidden 10″ bass driver

To achieve true full range sound, Krypton 3X’s elegant and timeless cabinet design incorporates a 10” side firing woofer. A rigid aluminium cone and a long excursion ensure powerful and controlled bass in all environments.
