About the Dynavector P75 Mk4.1
A significant upgrade to a proven design
The Dynavector P75 Mk4.1 is a compact, high-performance phono stage designed to work beautifully with pretty much any MM or MC cartridge. Externally it looks very much like the P75 Mk4, but inside it has been significantly reworked, with a new USB-PD power architecture, revised circuit layout and improved RIAA accuracy. There is a clear step forward in clarity, refinement and overall musical expression. They really ought to have called it the Mk5.
Designed for lower noise and higher performance
The move to USB Power Delivery marks a world first for a high-end phono stage. Instead of relying on a fixed-voltage plug-pack, the Mk4.1 negotiates the exact power it needs from a USB-C PD adaptor, ensuring stable, ultra-clean operation. The internal power system fully isolates and regenerates the incoming supply, so there’s no advantage in using a linear PSU or speciality USB-C cable. A standard USB-PD adaptor is all that’s required.
As an MM/MC phono stage, the Mk4.1 is exceptionally quiet and transparent. Gain and loading can be precisely configured via a new, more intuitive jumper system, allowing the P75 Mk4.1 to partner effectively with almost any cartridge. A revised steep roll-off subsonic filter helps control turntable rumble and warped records, improving stability and low-frequency cleanliness.
Unlocking more from low-output MC
For low-output moving-coil cartridges, the Mk4.1 also includes Dynavector’s patented Phono Enhancer (PE) mode. Originally developed for the company’s own MC designs, it can also work well with many other low-output MC cartridges, adding openness, dynamic drive and a more cohesive musical flow. PE mode is entirely optional, sitting alongside the Mk4.1’s already excellent standard operation.
Choosing between Mk4 and Mk4.1
The previous P75 Mk4 phono stage is still available in limited quantities and offers much of the same character, but the Mk4.1’s updated power supply, quieter performance, improved accuracy and revised internal layout make it a clear evolution.
Compact, flexible and far more sophisticated internally than its size suggests, the Dynavector P75 Mk4.1 is a superb analogue upgrade for anyone who wants a genuinely musical and future-proof phono stage.
Features
- Cleaner, more refined sound thanks to the new USB-PD power architecture and improved internal layout.
- Greater musical accuracy with enhanced RIAA performance that reveals more texture, detail and nuance.
- Consistent performance without extras, as the fully regenerated internal power system makes linear PSUs and premium USB-C cables unnecessary.
- Straightforward cartridge matching using a new, simplified jumper system for quick, confident setup.
- Cleaner low frequencies with a steep roll-off subsonic filter controlling rumble and the effects of warped records.
- Optional Phono Enhancer mode for low-output MC cartridges, adding openness, drive and musical cohesion when desired.
FAQ
Phono Enhancer (PE) mode is a patented Dynavector circuit that allows the P75 Mk4.1 to function as a current amplifier rather than a traditional voltage amplifier. It adds openness, dynamic drive and a more cohesive musical flow with low-output moving-coil cartridges. PE mode works brilliantly with Dynavector’s own low-output MC designs, but can also work well with many other low-output MC cartridges. It’s entirely optional — the Mk4.1 performs excellently in standard mode — so it’s worth experimenting with both to see which suits your particular cartridge.
Externally they’re similar, but the Mk4.1 has been significantly reworked inside. The headline change is the new USB Power Delivery power architecture — a world first for a high-end phono stage — which results in lower noise and cleaner operation. There’s also an improved circuit layout, better RIAA accuracy, and a revised subsonic filter. The sonic result is a clear step forward in clarity and refinement.
