Plenty of rooms simply won’t take a pair of floorstanders, and most compact speakers ask you to give up bass weight in return. The LS6 is Derek Hughes’s answer to that trade-off. Its custom 165 mm mid/bass driver is a long-throw design, able to move far more air than a typical driver of its size, so a 17-litre cabinet delivers the kind of scale and low-end body you would normally need a much bigger box for. Double bass has real weight, kick drums land with impact, and orchestral music keeps its size even at modest volume.

Voices that sound like people

The LS6 cabinet is built the way the BBC learned to build monitors: thin panels with added mass, which pushes cabinet resonances below the midrange instead of letting them colour it. The midrange is where voices, piano, strings and acoustic guitar live, and keeping the box quiet there is what gives the LS6 its natural, unforced character. Singers sound present and human rather than hard or boxy, and long listening sessions stay relaxed rather than fatiguing.

A 19 mm dome tweeter carries detail beyond 20 kHz, and the precise imaging that comes with a small, carefully damped cabinet puts each performer in a clear place between the speakers.

Easy to get right at home

The LS6 gives you two simple ways to make it fit your room. The rear bass reflex port lets you set bass weight by position: closer to the back wall for a fuller sound, further out for a tighter, leaner balance. And a switch on the front baffle lifts the tweeter by 1 dB or 2 dB – ideal if your seat sits off to one side, or if a heavily furnished room soaks up treble.

Because the crossover is equalised for free-space placement, the LS6 sounds its best on rigid speaker stands that bring the tweeter close to seated ear height – typically around 500–600 mm. Ask us and we will recommend a pairing that suits your room.

A speaker to keep

Each pair is finished in hand-matched real wood veneer – Cherry, Ebony, Oak, Rosewood or Walnut – with a grille held on by concealed magnets, so there are no visible fixings when you take it off. With 87 dB sensitivity and an 8 Ω load, the LS6 is happy with a wide range of integrated amplifiers from 50 W to 150 W, and it is backed by a 5-year warranty.
