About the mini-i Pro 4
The mini-i Pro 4 is Matrix Audio’s compact streaming DAC and headphone amplifier – a network streamer, DAC, fully balanced headphone amp and preamp built into a single small chassis. It brings together digital inputs, an RCA analogue input and Matrix Audio’s MA Player streaming platform, with a 3.46-inch touchscreen and RM5 remote for everyday control.
Sound quality
At the core is ESS’s ES9039Q2M DAC chip, paired with a quad-core Cortex-A55 processor running Matrix Audio’s own MA Player streamer OS. Careful attention to the analogue circuit layout gives the XLR output a 127dB signal-to-noise ratio and vanishingly low distortion, so the conversion stage stays out of the way of whatever’s connected downstream.
Headphone amplifier
Two headphone outputs cover most headphones without an adapter: 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm single-ended, both run from a fully balanced amplifier circuit. The balanced output delivers up to 2.2W into a 33-ohm load, enough for demanding planar and high-impedance headphones, with a shared +14dB gain stage that keeps quieter in-ears usable too.
Built to fit the system, not dictate it
Digital inputs cover optical, coaxial and HDMI ARC – the HDMI input supports CEC, so the mini-i Pro 4 can share power, volume and playback control with a TV. A USB-C port doubles as a USB DAC input for a computer or phone and a storage port for USB drives, and a single RCA analogue input with three selectable gain levels welcomes a turntable’s phono stage or another line-level source. XLR and RCA outputs run at a variable level, so the mini-i Pro 4 can work as a preamp in its own right, feeding a power amp or active speakers directly.
Storage and everyday use
Music streams over Gigabit Ethernet or dual-band Wi-Fi, with Roon Ready certification, native TIDAL, Qobuz and HIGHRESAUDIO login, plus TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, DLNA/UPnP and internet radio from vTuner and Radio Paradise. A USB drive or NAS gets indexed automatically into a searchable library in the MA Remote App, and a full MQA decoder is built in for anyone with MQA-encoded material. The 3.46-inch touchscreen handles day-to-day control directly on the unit, showing track metadata and input/output status, with the RM5 remote and MA Remote App covering everything else.
