About the Argon 5C
The Amphion Argon 5C is a horizontal centre channel built to sit above or below a screen without breaking the front-stage coherence of an Argon system. Like the Helium 520C, it uses an MTM (tweeter between two woofers) layout designed for this orientation, so dispersion stays even side to side rather than the vertical spread you’d get from turning a stand-mount speaker on its side.
It shares its acoustic components with the wider Argon range, including the fifth-generation UDD waveguide, so dialogue and effects panning across the front three channels sound continuous rather than coming from three mismatched boxes. The low crossover point keeps the tweeter/woofer handover out of the vocal range, which is where mismatched centre channels tend to give themselves away.
The aluminium woofers give it a slightly firmer, more controlled bottom end than the Helium 520C’s paper drivers, with a touch more headroom to match the Argon range’s higher power handling – useful in a centre channel, which typically carries the bulk of a film’s dialogue and midrange energy. Like the rest of the Argon series, it’s hand-built in Finland.
Pair it with Amphion Argon-series front speakers for a matched three-channel front stage, or use it as a dedicated dialogue channel in an existing system that needs clearer speech without adding a mismatched voicing to the mix.
