The miniDSP Flex HTx is a powerful and flexible full width 8 in / 8 out processor with analogue and digital inputs and analogue outputs.

The miniDSP UMIK-1 and UMIK-2 calibrated omnidirectional USB microphones are ideal for taking measurements with Room EQ Wizard or Dirac Live. UMIK-1 measures frequencies up to 24 kHz. With its larger capsule and higher sample rate, UMIK-2 reliably measures frequencies up to 96 kHz.

Description

The miniDSP Flex HTx is a full width 8 in / 8 out processor with analogue and digital inputs and analogue outputs. It is the only full width component in miniDSP’s popular Flex series and their engineers used the extra space to add RCA and balanced TRS analogue inputs and outputs for each of the eight channels. Flex HTx is a powerful tool for adding room correction to your home theatre, building precise crossovers for multi-way speakers or tightly integrating multiple subwoofers.

Eight channel audio input is via linear PCM over HDMI eARC or USB Audio, analogue RCA or balanced analogue TRS jacks. Coaxial and optical S/PDIF provide additional stereo inputs. The eight channel analogue RCA and balanced analogue TRS outputs feature class-leading low noise and distortion figures.

Internally, miniDSP has provided a full suite of flexible routing and audio processing features, including bass management, parametric EQ, crossovers, advanced biquad programming and delay / gain adjustments. In addition, the miniDSP Flex HTx is software-upgradable with full range Dirac Live®, the world’s premiere room correction system. The licence is purchased through the miniDSP Device Console app for Windows and macOS.

Frequently Asked Questions

miniDSP audio processors offer a lot of flexibility and not every possible use case requires taking measurements with a microphone. However, if you are going to use your miniDSP processor for room correction, subwoofer integration or as an active crossover for your speakers, then you are going to want to take some measurements using software like Room EQ Wizard (REW) or Dirac Live.

miniDSP’s UMIK-1 and UMIK-2 omnidirectional USB measurement microphones work perfectly with REW, Dirac Live and most other measurement software. Both models come with individual calibration files for horizontal and vertical placement, to provide highly accurate measurements in either orientation.

The lower cost UMIK-1 microphone has a sample rate of 48 kHz. This allows it to measure audio frequencies up to 24 kHz. It covers the entire audible band and provides more than enough bandwidth for subwoofer integration or room correction duties, where attention is mostly focussed on the low frequencies.

For those who want to understand the behaviour of their speakers or room beyond the audible band and into the ultrasonic, miniDSP offers the UMIK-2. UMIK-2 is equipped with a larger, more sensitive microphone capsule and a higher end analogue to digital converter, which provides a maximum sample rate of 192 kHz. This enables UMIK-2 to reliably measure frequencies up to 96 kHz (two full octaves more than UMIK-1).
