About the Moor Amps Angel 4 Mk II

Moor Amps principles at a more manageable size

The Angel 4 Mk II is a stereo power amplifier built on the same design principles as the flagship Angel 6 Mk II, scaled down to suit more rooms and more speakers. It delivers 75 W per channel into 8 ohms and 150 W into 4 ohms from a standard 430 mm-wide, 120 mm-tall chassis.

Like the rest of the Moor Amps Angel range, it uses a low-feedback circuit that is made linear by design rather than corrected afterwards. Distortion measures below 0.01% THD and IMD into a typical loudspeaker load, and power doubles as impedance halves from 8 to 4 ohms – a sign of a supply that isn’t straining.

A three-island supply in place of the original

Outwardly, the Mk II is identical to the original Angel 4. The changes are inside, and almost all of them concern the power supply. It now uses a full three-island supply like the Angel 6’s, which needs three times as many capacitors as a conventional amplifier supply. Overall capacitance is more than three times that of the original Angel 4.

Moor Amps has also lowered the impedance of the supply feeding each amplifier module. Because supply and amplifier share a single box, the supply routing could be optimised and track lengths shortened, so more of that capacitance reaches the output stage when it’s needed.

What a stiffer supply changes

A supply that holds its voltage under load lets the amplifier keep a firmer grip on the speaker cones, particularly through bass transients and loud passages. Moor Amps describes the Mk II as sounding more natural on instruments, with bass lines that carry more texture and percussion with more realistic impact. Individual parts in a busy mix are easier to follow, without the presentation becoming analytical.

Upgrading an original Angel 4

Existing Angel 4 owners can have their amplifier upgraded to full Mk II specification through Moor Amps’ return-to-factory service. Contact us for details.

For a complete Angel system, pair the Angel 4 Mk II with the Angel Pre, whose standby trigger outputs bring the power amplifier in and out of standby with it.

Features

Power & amplification

75 W per channel into 8 ohms

Rising to 150 W into 4 ohms as the load impedance halves.

Low-feedback circuit

Linear by design, with THD and IMD both below 0.01% into a typical speaker load.

4–16 ohm speaker compatibility

Suits a broad range of passive speakers, from 4-ohm floorstanders to 16-ohm designs.

Protected output stage

±15 A short-circuit and overload protection, plus over- and under-temperature cut-outs.

Power supply

Three-island power supply

The Angel-6’s supply topology, with three times the capacitors of a conventional design.

More than triple the capacitance

Compared with the original Angel-4 – the biggest single change in the Mk II.

Lower supply impedance

Each amplifier module gets a stiffer feed for tighter control of the loudspeaker.

Optimised single-box layout

Shorter, re-routed tracks between the supply and the amplifier modules.

Connectivity & build

RCA inputs

1 V for full output, with a 15 kΩ input impedance.

Versatile speaker terminals

Bare wire, spade connectors or 4 mm plugs.

Standard 430 mm width

120 mm tall, so it fits a standard hi-fi rack shelf.

230 V or 115 V versions

230 V 50 Hz as standard, with a 115 V 60 Hz version available.
