Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the H20 with a non-Hegel preamp?
Yes. It works beautifully with many preamps via RCA or XLR. But it performs best with a matching Hegel model like the P20 or P30A, where voicing and gain are carefully aligned.
Is the H20 better than the H190v or H400
It’s different. The H190v and H400 are integrated amps with built-in DACs and network streamers. The H20 is a purist power amplifier — more current, more grip, better separation. Pair it with a good preamp like the Hegel P20 and it will outclass the integrateds in most systems.
How close is it to the H30A?
The H30A is the ultimate. But the H20 captures the spirit — refinement, depth, control — at a far lower cost. If your room or system doesn’t need the full weight of the H30A, the H20 might be the sweet spot.
Will it drive my speakers?
Almost certainly. It’s stable into 2 ohms, with loads of current and a high damping factor. If you’re not sure, ask — we’ve probably tried your speakers already.
