About the Hegel H95

60W of genuine Hegel performance

The H95 delivers 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms, with the current delivery and speaker control that Hegel’s SoundEngine 2 technology makes possible. The damping factor of over 2,000 gives the amplifier a firm grip on loudspeaker drivers — the kind of control that tightens bass, clarifies midrange and keeps complex music organised under pressure.

This is not entry-level performance dressed up in premium packaging. The H95 uses the same core amplifier design philosophy as the more powerful models in the Hegel range, scaled appropriately for its power output. Paired with the right speakers, it reveals considerably more than its price and power figure might suggest.

Amplifier, DAC and streamer in one box

The H95 includes a built-in DAC and music streamer alongside the amplifier, so a single box connected to your network and speakers is all you need to play music from a phone, a tablet, a computer or a network-attached storage device. AirPlay, Spotify Connect and DLNA/UPnP are all supported.

The streaming platform is an earlier generation than the one used in the H150, which means it does not support Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect or Qobuz Connect natively. For most listeners that is not a significant limitation – DLNA/UPnP, AirPlay and Spotify Connect cover the vast majority of everyday listening. If Roon Ready or TIDAL Connect integration is important to you, the H150 is the model to consider.

SoundEngine 2 — Hegel’s error-cancelling amplifier technology

SoundEngine 2 is Hegel’s proprietary approach to reducing distortion in the amplifier stage. Rather than applying conventional negative feedback, which can introduce its own sonic artefacts, SoundEngine 2 detects and cancels errors as they occur. The result is an amplifier with very low measured distortion that also avoids the characteristic sound that heavy feedback correction can impose on music.

The practical effect is an amplifier that sounds more neutral and more at ease than its specifications alone might suggest – particularly at lower listening levels, where many amplifiers become less composed. SoundEngine 2 is present throughout the Hegel integrated amplifier range, from the H95 to the flagship H600.

Connectivity and outputs

The H95 has two analogue inputs and six digital inputs — coaxial, optical and USB — alongside its network streaming input. Any input can be configured as fixed level or variable, which makes it straightforward to integrate the H95 into a system that includes other source components or a home theatre setup.

A variable preamp output makes subwoofer integration simple. The headphone output on the front panel is convenient for casual listening, though customers who use headphones seriously will find a dedicated headphone amplifier a worthwhile addition. A clean white OLED display shows the selected input and volume level without unnecessary visual clutter.

60W per channel into 8 ohms

Sufficient power for a wide range of loudspeakers, with the current delivery and control that SoundEngine 2 makes possible. Stable into demanding loads.

Hegel SoundEngine 2

Hegel’s proprietary error-cancelling technology reduces distortion while preserving dynamics and musical flow — present throughout the Hegel range from H95 to H600.

Connectivity

Built-in DAC

A capable digital-to-analogue converter handles coaxial, optical and USB inputs, giving digital sources a clean and musical conversion without the need for an external DAC.

USB, coaxial and optical inputs

USB type B, RCA coaxial and Toslink optical digital inputs provide flexible connectivity for a computer, TV, CD transport or other digital source.

Two unbalanced RCA inputs

Alongside the XLR pairs, two RCA line inputs provide flexible analogue source matching for a wide range of equipment.

Variable RCA output

Variable RCA output for integrating subwoofers or secondary amplification.

Headphone output

A front-panel headphone output provides convenient private listening, without the need for a dedicated headphone amplifier.

Streaming

Spotify Connect

Stream seamlessly from Spotify with Spotify Connect — just select the H95 from the menu in the Spotify app.

AirPlay streaming

Stream directly from any Apple device or AirPlay-compatible app without pairing or setup.

UPnP / DLNA

Stream from a NAS, computer or media server using any UPnP-compatible app.

Usability & convenience

Infrared remote

The included remote handset controls volume, input, mute, standby and navigation of the settings menu.

Home theatre bypass

Most inputs can be configured as fixed-level home theatre inputs for easy integration with AV processors.

Firmware updateable

Hegel delivers firmware updates over the network, ensuring the H95 can benefit from platform improvements without requiring a dealer visit or manual update process.

How does the H95 compare to other Hegel integrated amplifiers?

The H95 is Hegel’s entry-level integrated amplifier, and its power output is scaled to match its price tag. Despite being Hegel’s most-affordable integrated amplifier, it includes a useful mix of analogue and digital input and output options, including a music streamer with support for Spotify Connect, AirPlay and UPnP. Paired with some reasonably efficient speakers, the H95 makes for an extremely enjoyable listen.

FAQ

How do I buy the Hegel H95?

The H95 is available to order by phone or email — call us on 0161 399 0993 or use the Ask a Question button above. We will confirm availability, talk through your system if that is useful, take payment and arrange free UK delivery. We aim to have orders on their way within 1-2 days.

Is 60W enough power?

For most domestic listening situations, yes. The H95’s power output is well suited to speakers with a sensitivity of 86dB or above in a typical room. If you are planning to use very large speakers, speakers with particularly low sensitivity, or listening in a large room at high volumes, the H150 with 75W per channel and the H190v with 150W per channel are worth considering. We are happy to advise — call us and tell us about your speakers and room.

What streaming services does it support?

The H95 supports AirPlay, Spotify Connect and DLNA/UPnP. It does not support Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect or Qobuz Connect. If any of those are important to your system, the H150 uses Hegel’s latest streaming platform and supports all of them.

How does the H95 compare to the H150?

The H150 is the next model up in the Hegel range. It offers a slightly higher power output at 75W per channel, Hegel’s latest streaming platform with Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect support, and a built-in MM phono stage. The H95 uses an earlier streaming platform without those streaming services and has no phono stage. Both use SoundEngine 2 and share the same fundamental Hegel amplifier character. The H150 costs £2,750 against £1,500 for the H95 — whether the additional features justify the difference depends on your priorities.

Is it Roon Ready?

No. The H95 is not Roon Ready certified, although it can still integrate with Roon via AirPlay. If Roon Ready certification is important to you, the H150 is the most affordable option from the Hegel range.

Can I connect a turntable?

Yes, but you will need a separate phono stage unless your turntable already has one built in. The H95 has line-level analogue inputs only — there is no built-in phono stage.

Can I connect a subwoofer?

Yes. The H95 has a pair of variable preamp outputs, making it straightforward to connect one or two subwoofers. Because the output level is variable, the H95 controls the subwoofer volume alongside the main speakers — no separate volume control on the subwoofer is needed for level matching.

Is the headphone output good?

The front-panel headphone output is well suited to casual and everyday listening. Those who listen seriously through headphones will find a dedicated headphone amplifier a worthwhile addition — but for background listening and occasional use it does the job well.

Can I use the H95 as a complete one-box system?

Yes. Connect it to your network and add speakers, and you have everything you need to stream music from a phone, tablet, computer or network storage device. No separate streamer or DAC is required.

Is the H95 a good choice if I want fewer boxes?

Yes. The H95 combines an amplifier, DAC and streamer in a single compact chassis. For listeners who want simplicity and genuine sound quality without a rack full of components, it makes a strong case for itself.
