About the Moor Amps Angel 4i

A passive preamp and an Angel power amp in one chassis

The Angel 4i is a stereo integrated amplifier that combines two existing Moor Amps designs. Its preamplifier is the passive section of the Angel Pre, and its power stage is derived from the Angel 4, upgraded with the three-island power supply used in the Angel 6.

Because the preamp section is fully passive, there’s no active gain stage between your source and the power amplifier. Volume is set by an ALPS ‘Blue Beauty’ potentiometer, which is motorised so you can adjust it from the remote. The remote itself is the same billet-machined handset supplied with the Angel-Pre.

Low feedback from the regulators to the output transistors

Moor Amps’ low-feedback approach runs through the whole amplifier. The power stage is designed to be linear without heavy correction, and its high-current DC rails come from low-feedback regulators too. THD and IMD both measure below 0.01% into a typical loudspeaker load.

In the output stage, four ring-emitter transistors share the current. Spreading the load this way keeps the stage operating linearly even when the speaker demands large currents, so the Angel-4i keeps hold of the drivers on loud, dynamic material. It’s rated at 75 W per channel into 8 ohms and 150 W into 4 ohms.

Damped casework, simple system building

The heavy machined case uses panels of different thicknesses that damp one another, so less vibration reaches the amplifier circuitry.

As a single box with line-level inputs, the Angel 4i needs only a source and a pair of speakers. Partner it with the Mana DAC or a music streamer for digital playback.

Features

Power & amplification

75 W per channel into 8 ohms

150 W into 4 ohms, for speakers of 4–16 ohms nominal impedance.

Low-feedback power stage

Linear by design – THD and IMD below 0.01% into a typical speaker load.

Four ring-emitter output transistors

Share the current load so the output stage stays linear at high current.

Protected output stage

±15 A short-circuit and overload protection, plus over- and under-temperature cut-outs.

Preamplifier & control

Passive preamp from the Angel-Pre

No active gain stage between source and power amplifier.

ALPS ‘Blue Beauty’ volume control

The potentiometer sets level directly, with no electronic volume chip in the path.

Motorised volume

Adjust level from the remote while keeping a purely analogue control.

Billet-machined remote

The same remote handset supplied with the Angel-Pre.

Power supply & build

Three-island power supply

The Angel-6’s supply topology, giving the power stage a stiffer, higher-capacity feed.

Low-feedback regulators

Clean, high-current DC rails for the power stage.

Damped machined casework

Panels of differing thickness damp each other to keep vibration from the circuitry.

Low standby consumption

Under 0.5 W in standby, with a 115 V 60 Hz version available.
