Description
The Hana Umami Red low output moving coil cartridge embodies ‘umami’, a term coined in 1908 by Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda-san to describe a very pleasing or delicious flavour on the palette. A synergistic effect resulting in higher taste intensity.
Hana’s master cartridge designer Maseo Okada-san applies this concept as he combines premium materials, classic Japanese techniques and modern audio engineering to create his Hana Umami Red low output moving coil cartridge.
Features
- Auricle™ body machined from Duralumin with ebony wood inlay
- Finished in red gloss Urushi lacquer
- Low output moving coil with 0.4 mV output
- Boron cantilever
- Microline nude diamond stylus
- Samarium cobalt magnet
- High purity copper coil
The cryogenically treated moving coil generator features a samarium cobalt magnet. The pure iron square plate armature, hand wound with high purity 30 micron copper wire, provides an internal impedance of 6 Ω and 0.4 mV output.
The nude microline stylus is bonded to a solid boron cantilever for tracing the most delicate musical nuances from the vinyl. The easy to fit stylus guard protects your investment.
The Hana Umami Red’s Auricle™ body design (with tapped mounting holes) mimics the shape of the human outer ear. It provides a rigid support for the cryogenically treated “open air” moving coil generator. The body is machined from a hard Duralumin with a multi-layered Urushi lacquer finish. Urushi lacquer originates from the Japanese Makie artistic tradition. An ebony wood inlay acts as a resonance damper.
Master designer Okada-san brings over 50 years of experience to this design. Excel Sound manufactures all the major parts of the Hana Umami Red in house. Each cartridge is skilfully hand assembled by its team of highly trained craftsmen.
