About the Hegel H600
Dual-mono amplification
The H600 is built as a dual-mono design – two fully independent mono amplifier stages in one chassis, each with its own power rail, delivering 303 W per channel into 8 ohms with both channels driven simultaneously.
Damping factor sits above 4,000, meaning the amplifier’s output impedance is very low relative to the speaker’s – enough to grip the driver cones firmly, controlling their stop as tightly as their start. That control matters most in the bass, where an underdamped amplifier lets the cone overshoot and ring rather than stop cleanly.
The preamp stage borrows its volume attenuator directly from Hegel’s P30A reference preamp. It’s the same attenuator design, not a scaled-down version of it, and no other Hegel integrated amplifier carries it.
Bit-perfect DAC
The H600’s DAC doesn’t upsample or resample the incoming signal; it converts it as received. That isolation extends to power, too – a dedicated supply, physically separate from the amplification circuitry, sits behind a steel shield so noise from the amp section can’t reach the digital path.
Chassis and controls
The bottom plate is solid aluminium, adding mass where it damps vibration most effectively, while the connectors are positioned specifically to keep the analogue and digital sections from interfering with each other. Anti-scratch feet isolate the chassis further from whatever it’s standing on.
The volume and input knobs use touch-sensitive control rather than a mechanical detent, for a resistance-free, deliberate feel.
Signal sense, remote learning and home theatre bypass
Every digital input except USB wakes the H600 and switches it to the correct source automatically. Volume can be capped at a fixed ceiling for shared systems, and the amplifier can learn commands from an existing TV remote, removing the need for a second handset. Any input can also be set as a fixed-level home theatre pass-through, so the H600 can sit downstream of a surround processor without altering the analogue signal.
Built-in streaming
On the streaming side, Roon Ready certification, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast and UPnP/DLNA all run natively, with firmware updates installing automatically as Hegel adds new services.
